Counselling in the New Forest

Humanistic counselling and psychotherapy in the New Forest

Looking for counselling can begin for many different reasons.

You may be going through a difficult period, noticing the same patterns repeating, feeling overwhelmed or disconnected, or simply recognising that the ways you have always coped are no longer working in the same way.

I offer humanistic, person-centred counselling for people living in the New Forest and surrounding areas, providing a warm and confidential space where you can explore what is happening for you without judgement or pressure.

You do not need to have everything worked out before you begin. We can start wherever you are.

Reasons people seek counselling

There is no single reason to come to counselling.

You may be dealing with anxiety, low mood or overwhelm, struggling with a relationship, going through a major life change, or noticing that certain patterns keep returning even when you want things to be different.

For some people, counselling begins with something very specific. For others, it starts with a harder-to-name feeling of being stuck, disconnected or not quite themselves.

I work with a range of experiences, including:

  • Anxiety, overwhelm and low mood

  • ADHD, autism and other forms of neurodivergence

  • Midlife, perimenopause and menopause

  • Relationship difficulties and recurring patterns

  • Substance use, addiction and recovery

  • Bereavement and loss

  • Low confidence and self-esteem

  • Difficult or complex life experiences

  • Major life transitions

  • Feeling disconnected, uncertain or emotionally exhausted

Counselling offers a space to pause, understand what may be happening beneath the surface and begin exploring what you need with greater clarity and self-understanding.

A humanistic and person-centred approach

My approach is grounded in humanistic and person-centred counselling.

Rather than telling you what you should do, I offer a collaborative space where we can explore your experiences, relationships, emotions and patterns at a pace that feels right for you.

I work holistically, recognising that our experiences are not held only in our thoughts. They can also show up in our bodies, our relationships, our behaviours and the ways we respond to stress or uncertainty.

Alongside talking, we may notice things such as tension, breathing, movement or physical responses, or use creative ways of exploring something when words alone do not quite capture it.

There is no fixed programme to follow. The work is shaped around you, what you bring and what feels most useful.

Experience and qualifications

Alongside my counselling training, I bring more than 15 years of experience supporting people affected by mental health difficulties, substance use, homelessness, crisis and complex life circumstances.

That experience has shaped the way I work. I am interested in the whole person rather than reducing someone to a diagnosis, behaviour or difficulty.

Often, the ways we cope have developed for a reason. Counselling can create space to understand those patterns with curiosity rather than judgement.

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Humanistic Counselling from the University of Portsmouth and have completed extensive supervised counselling practice as part of my training.

I am also an  Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Counselling in the New Forest and surrounding areas

I offer counselling to people living across the New Forest and nearby areas, including Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Lymington, Totton, Hythe, Marchwood, Ashurst, New Milton and surrounding villages.

Online counselling is also available across the UK, so you can choose to work remotely if that feels easier or more convenient.

Sessions are available in English or Spanish.

Taking the first step

Getting in touch with a counsellor can feel like a big step, especially if you are used to managing things on your own.

You do not need to explain everything before contacting me or know exactly what you want to work on.

I offer a free 15-minute introductory call, giving us the chance to briefly meet, talk about what has brought you to counselling and answer any questions you may have.

There is no obligation to book afterwards. Finding the right counsellor is personal, and it is important that you feel comfortable with the person you choose to work with.

Individual counselling sessions are 50 minutes and £60.

If you are looking for counselling in the New Forest and would like to explore whether working together might feel right for you, you are very welcome to get in touch.
