Counselling in Southampton
Humanistic counselling and psychotherapy in Southampton
Sometimes you know exactly why you are looking for counselling. At other times, it can be harder to put into words.
You may simply know that something doesn’t feel right, that the same patterns keep repeating, or that the ways you have always coped are no longer working in the same way.
I offer humanistic, person-centred counselling in Southampton for adults and adolescents, providing a warm and confidential space where you can explore what is happening for you without judgement or pressure.
You don’t need to arrive with everything worked out. We can begin wherever you are.
How counselling can help
People come to counselling for many different reasons. You don’t need to have reached crisis point, and you don’t need to have a diagnosis or even be completely sure what is wrong.
You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious or disconnected from yourself. Perhaps relationships keep falling into the same patterns, life has changed in ways you are struggling to adjust to, or you have been coping for a long time and are beginning to realise that something needs to change.
I work with a range of experiences, including:
-
Anxiety, overwhelm and low mood
-
ADHD, autism and other forms of neurodivergence
-
Women’s experiences of midlife, perimenopause and menopause
-
Relationship difficulties and repeating patterns
-
Substance use, addiction and recovery
-
Bereavement and loss
-
Low confidence and self-esteem
-
Difficult or complex life experiences
-
Major life changes and transitions
-
Feeling stuck, disconnected or unsure of what comes next
Sometimes counselling is not about finding a label for what is wrong. It can simply be a space to slow things down, understand yourself more deeply and begin to recognise what you need.
My approach to counselling
My work is grounded in humanistic and person-centred counselling.
I don’t see my role as telling you what to do or deciding what your life should look like. Instead, we work collaboratively, exploring what feels important to you and making sense of your experiences at your own pace.
I also work holistically. Our experiences are not held only in our thoughts; they can show up in our emotions, relationships, behaviours and bodies.
Alongside talking, we may notice things such as tension, breathing, movement or physical responses, or use creative ways of exploring something when words do not quite capture it.
There is no set programme you have to follow and no expectation that you should progress in a particular way. The work is shaped around you, your experiences and what feels most useful.
Experience and qualifications
Alongside my counselling training, I bring more than 15 years of experience supporting people affected by mental health difficulties, substance use, homelessness, crisis and complex life circumstances.
That experience has shaped the way I work. I am interested in the whole person rather than reducing someone to a diagnosis, behaviour or difficulty.
Often, the ways we cope have developed for a reason. Counselling can create space to understand those patterns with curiosity rather than judgement.
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Humanistic Counselling from the University of Portsmouth and have completed extensive supervised counselling practice as part of my training.
I am also an Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Taking the first step
Getting in touch with a counsellor can sometimes feel like the hardest part.
You do not need to explain your whole story in an email or know exactly what you want to work on before contacting me.
I offer a free 15-minute introductory call, giving us the chance to briefly meet, talk about what has brought you to counselling and answer any questions you may have.
There is no obligation to book afterwards. Finding the right counsellor is personal, and it is important that you feel comfortable with the person you choose to work with.
Individual counselling sessions are 50 minutes and £60.
If you are looking for counselling in Southampton and would like to explore whether working together might feel right for you, you are very welcome to get in touch.
